Despite the freeze/thaw cycles and melting and rain this past week, the base has faired reasonably well. The base appears thick enough for you to use your good skis - if in doubt, bring your 'B' skis.
'Decent' skiing is available. The trail surface is hardpack (not icy) and offers adequate edge control. Where I skied on Tuesday (Dec. 23rd), the skate deck had a mixture of areas of older corduroy and 1/2" of ungroomed snow, and wasn't too rough; the classic track is reasonably well defined, and probably provides reasonable kick. On the East Side, anticipate a lot of trail litter (pine boughs, acorns, pinecones, twigs, etc) as a result of the high winds that blew through on December 20th. The freshly groomed West Side trails are reportedly in good shape - but avoid the far west loop (D-F-G-H-I) where there is running water.
As an alternative to skiing, snowshoe (or hike) the snowshoe trails.
